Sugar White Snow and Evergreens: A Winter Wonderland of Color

Snow in July

How about, before it’s over and to beat this summer’s relentless
heat and humidity, a little snowy winter in July?

March Mischief and Maple Syrup…

It looks like snow is once more on the way!

This year it feels like more than March mischief.

What to do to make it through?

Maybe this review presents a hint or two:

Wind and Snow Bring Spring You Know

The Dream in a Snowflake 2, by Jeff Chernesky It may still be winter, but deep beneath the snow spring’s getting ready to bloom!

And I’ve been busy having bookmarks, stickers, and postcards made, booking dates for spring author visits and signings, so there are lots of updates to this website in the works as well.

In the meantime, maybe you’ll enjoy this nice Publishers Weekly review of my forthcoming

Sun Above and Blooms Below:A Springtime of Opposites

In their fourth seasonally themed, concept-driven collaboration (following Sugar White Snow and Evergreens and other titles), Chernesky and Swan allow readers to accompany an ethnically diverse class on a field trip to a farm. As in the earlier books, Chernesky’s upbeat verse puts the concept front and center (“From far away a weather vane/ led us down a crooked lane,/ past straight wood fences, squat red pens./ We parked near barns and clucking hens”), and Swan’s detailed, vividly textured collages invite close study of each page. Ages 4–7. Author’s agent: Susan Hawk, Bent Agency. (Mar.) Felicia Sanzari Chernesky, Author, Susan Swan, Illustrator

The appearance of Sun Above rounds out the series of books illustrated by Susan Swan that focuses on a season of the year, an early learning concept, and some aspect of a farm visit. I feel both happy and sad, to be honest. Happy to see the series comes to full fruit, and sad to see my collaboration with the wonderful Susan Swan come to and end. Hopefully, we’ll work together again!

For now, I leave you with one of my favorite spreads from the book!

Meet Grady!

I wonder if he likes pancakes and maple syrup, too?

Speaking of maple syrup, here are some sweet images of my visits with new readers this past weekend at the South River Public Schools Bookfair at the East Brunswick Barnes & Noble in the morning and later with the kids’ book club at the wonderful Book Garden in Frenchtown. Thanks to Cathy Genna and to Caroline Scutt for inviting me back to their respective book stores. It’s always a delight!
