East Brunswick Barnes & Noble Thank You!

Insert from Pick a Circle, Gather Squares--A Fall Harvest of Shapes This post comes the day after I planned to post. Isn’t that often the way?

First, thanks to Cathy Genna, community business development manager at the East Brunswick Barnes & Noble for allowing me to participate in a Fall Educator Appreciation Event this past Wednesday. It was lovely to speak with the teachers who attended about my rhyming picture book series publisher by Albert Whitman and illustrated by Susan Swan, and particularly on how poetry has played an important role in the developments of the texts.

The discussion focused on Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes and Cheers for a Dozen Ears: A Summer Crop of Countingand I spent some time talking about how the books celebrate agriculture, inspired by family visits to local farms in New Jersey, as well as the opportunities to discuss mathematical concepts these books provide.

I’m looking forward to returning to the East Brunswick B & N for the East Brunswick Education Foundation Bookfair on Saturday, November 22. I’ll be chatting with visitors and signing books from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a focus on the third book in the series: Sugar White Snow and Evergreens: A Winter Wonderland of Color.

This post is also meant to be an invitation to the teachers who attended the event to participate in my ongoing Pinterest Pumpkins, Pumpkins Everywhere! Contest:

Pumpkins and More PumpkinsSend photos of the pumpkins you pick in October 2014 and on November 1 I’ll choose my favorite pumpkin in my Pinterest patch. The winner receives a signed copy of my picture book Pick a Circle, Gather Squares: A Fall Harvest of Shapes, illustrated by Susan Swan (Albert Whitman), which takes a hayride with a family searching for the perfect pumpkin!

Teachers, if your class participates I will send you bookmarks and stickers for your students!

There are lots of doings underway this fall. Anyone interested can consult my calendar of events for details. I’m also delighted to have worked with my web designer, “Joe the No,” on site updates—and I’ll be adding links to lesson plans and book-themed activity sheets this weekend—as well as information about forthcoming books. So teachers and other readers, stop back again soon!

And send me photos of your best pumpkin hayride picks!
